This page explains what happens to information when you visit TorpidLife at torpidlife.com, an independent publication about health, movement, and ergonomics for people who work at computers. It is a reading site: no accounts, no shop, no membership, nothing to sign up for, which keeps this policy shorter and plainer than most.

The short version
We do not sell your personal information and we do not build advertising profiles. The only times we hold anything identifying you are when you deliberately send it (through the contact form or a comment) plus the ordinary technical records any web host produces, and aggregate traffic statistics.
What we collect, and why
Traffic statistics
TorpidLife runs the Google Site Kit plugin, which connects the site to Google Analytics 4. That connection is still being set up and is not yet reporting live data. Once active, it will record which pages are viewed, roughly how long people stay, device and browser type, the referring site or search, and an approximate region derived from the IP address. We use this to see which articles are useful, not to identify individual readers, and we do not run Google’s advertising or remarketing features.
Contact form submissions
The contact form is powered by WPForms Lite. When you send a message we receive whatever you type (typically your name, email address, and message) plus the date, time, and submitting IP address. It is stored in the site’s own database on our web host and used only to read and reply. Please do not send detailed personal medical information through the form; we are not a clinical service and cannot act on it.
Comments
Where comments are open, WordPress stores the name and email address you enter, your comment text, your IP address, and your browser’s user-agent string. Those details are also passed to Akismet, an automated spam-filtering service, which returns a verdict. WordPress may set cookies so your name and email are pre-filled next time. Comments are kept indefinitely so threads stay readable, unless you ask us to remove them.
Server logs and caching
Our web host, Hostinger, keeps standard access and error logs recording IP addresses, requested URLs, timestamps, response codes, and user-agent strings, for security, abuse prevention, and diagnosing faults. We also run LiteSpeed Cache, which stores pre-built copies of pages to make the site fast. Where it sets a browser cookie, that cookie decides which cached version of a page to serve; it does not track you across other websites.
Embedded content
Articles sometimes embed content hosted elsewhere, such as a YouTube video. Embedded content behaves as if you had visited that site directly: the provider can see your IP address, set cookies, and track your interaction with the embed, under its own privacy policy, which we do not control.
Advertising and affiliate links
TorpidLife runs no advertising network and has no active affiliate relationships, so no ad or affiliate cookies are set today. We intend to introduce affiliate links and possibly display advertising in future. Those partners will set their own cookies and may collect data for measurement and ad targeting; we will update this policy before or when that goes live.
Why we are allowed to process this (legal bases)
If you are in the EU or UK, the GDPR requires us to name a legal basis for each use of your data. Ours are:
- Consent: for analytics and any future advertising or affiliate cookies, and for choosing to submit a comment or a form.
- Legitimate interests: for keeping the site secure and available, filtering spam, and understanding in aggregate how it is used.
- Legal obligation: where we are required to keep or disclose information by law.
Who your information is shared with
We do not sell, rent, or trade personal information. A small number of service providers handle it because the site needs them to work:
- Hostinger: hosts the site, its database, and its logs.
- Google: receives analytics data through Google Site Kit and Google Analytics 4.
- Akismet (Automattic): receives comment details for spam checking.
- Embedded content providers: such as video platforms, when you load a page containing their embed.
We may also disclose information where legally required, or where genuinely necessary to protect the site against attack or abuse.
International transfers
These providers operate internationally, so your information may be processed outside your own country, including in the United States. Where data covered by the GDPR leaves the EU or UK, those providers rely on mechanisms such as Standard Contractual Clauses or an adequacy decision. We rely on their published terms rather than making our own claims about their infrastructure.
How long things are kept
- Contact form messages: kept while the conversation is useful, then deleted on request or in routine clear-outs.
- Comments: kept indefinitely unless you ask for removal.
- Server logs: kept briefly under our host’s normal rotation schedule.
- Analytics data: kept per the retention setting in our Google Analytics property.
Your rights in the EU and UK
If the GDPR applies to you, you can ask for a copy of the personal data we hold about you, correct it, delete it, restrict what we do with it, or receive it in a portable format. You can object to processing carried out on the basis of legitimate interests, and withdraw consent at any time. Withdrawal does not undo processing that already happened. You can also complain to your national data protection authority.
Your rights in California
Under the CCPA as amended by the CPRA, California residents can ask what categories of personal information we collected, where it came from, why, and who it was disclosed to; ask for a copy; and ask us to delete or correct it. You can also opt out of the “sale” or “sharing” of personal information and limit the use of sensitive personal information. We do not sell or share personal information as those terms are defined, and we do not collect sensitive personal information. We will not treat you differently for exercising these rights.
How to make a request
Send any privacy request through our contact page and tell us what you would like done. We may ask a question to confirm the request really comes from you (for example, matching the email address used on a comment), and we will respond within the time limits that apply.
Cookies and how to control them
Cookies here fall into three groups: functional ones set by WordPress and LiteSpeed Cache to remember comment details and serve the right cached page; analytics cookies set by Google Analytics once that connection is live; and cookies set by embedded third-party content when you load it. Every browser can block or delete cookies in its settings, and Google publishes an official analytics opt-out add-on. Blocking cookies will not stop you reading anything here.
Children
TorpidLife is written for working adults and is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 16. If you believe a child has sent us information, tell us via the contact page and we will delete it.
Security
The site is served over HTTPS, so traffic between your browser and our server is encrypted, and we keep WordPress core, themes, and plugins updated. No website can promise perfect security, and we make no certification or audit claims: only that we take reasonable care.
Changes to this policy
This policy will change as the site grows, most obviously when analytics goes live, when affiliate links begin, or if advertising is introduced. The revised version will be posted here with a new date at the top, and significant changes will be flagged on the site. If anything is unclear, ask through the contact page.
