What an affiliate link is
An affiliate link carries a tracking code. If you click it and buy something, the retailer pays the referring site a small commission. Your price is the same either way. It comes out of the retailer’s margin, not your pocket.
When TorpidLife starts using them
We write about chairs, desks, keyboards, monitor arms, and lighting, so affiliate links are a natural way for a site like this to fund itself. We intend to join one or more programs in future. When we do:
- Any article with affiliate links will carry a clear disclosure near the top, above or alongside the first link, not buried in the footer.
- It will be in plain English, at the same readable size as the surrounding text.
- This page will be updated to name the programs we have joined.
- Our Privacy Policy will be updated to cover the cookies those programs set.
This follows the US Federal Trade Commission’s guidance on endorsements, which asks publishers to disclose any material connection clearly and conspicuously, close to the recommendation it relates to.
Amazon Associates
TorpidLife is not currently a participant in the Amazon Associates Program. When we join, this statement will apply and appear on every page carrying Amazon links:
“TorpidLife is a participant in the Amazon Services LLC Associates Program, an affiliate advertising program designed to provide a means for sites to earn advertising fees by advertising and linking to Amazon.com. As an Amazon Associate, TorpidLife earns from qualifying purchases.”
Until we say otherwise, treat that as future, not present.
Commissions will not change what we recommend
This is the part that matters. A commission never determines whether a product is recommended, how it is rated, or what we say about it:
- What to cover is decided before any affiliate program is checked, based on reader questions and the evidence.
- We will say plainly when something is overpriced, badly built, or unnecessary, including products we could earn from.
- We will keep recommending free fixes, like adjusting what you own or moving more often, which earn nothing.
- We will not accept payment for a favourable review, a ranking position, or a link presented as editorial. Anything a brand sponsors will be labelled as sponsored.
- If a product is sent to us free of charge, we will say so in the article.
- Recommendations get revised when better information appears, regardless of what that does to earnings.
